Five logo methods for activewear, and when each one holds

by EnovStars 01 Nov 2026 0 comments

Five methods put a brand mark on activewear. Each one behaves differently on stretch fabric, and picking the wrong one is the most common reason a logo looks cheap after five washes. Here is what each method actually does.

1. Silicone and HD silicone

Silicone is built up on the surface to a visible height, with a clean glossy edge. It stretches with the fabric, so it holds on compression wear where a printed film would crack.

  • Best on: sports bras, leggings, any close-fitting piece
  • Usually one colour per mark
  • Hand-feel: raised, slightly glossy, premium
  • Cost: highest of the five

2. Heat transfer film

A thin film is cut and pressed onto the fabric. It handles gradients, small type and fine line art that screen printing cannot reproduce cheaply.

  • Best on: small batches, logo on the thigh or centre back
  • Hand-feel: thin, sits lightly on the surface
  • Watch out: heavy stretch areas can lift at the edges if the film is too stiff

3. Screen print

Ink is pressed through a mesh into the weave. At volume it is the cheapest per piece, and the colour is dense and opaque.

  • Best on: flat cotton tees, hoodies, one to three spot colours
  • Setup cost per colour, so it pays above roughly 100 pieces per design
  • Hand-feel: thinnest when cured properly, sits in the fabric rather than on it

4. Embroidery

Thread stitched directly into the garment. It reads as premium at a glance and survives industrial washing.

  • Best on: hoodies, caps, heavyweight cotton, chest marks
  • Six to twelve thread colours is the practical range
  • Not ideal on high-stretch panels: the stitching can pucker the fabric

5. DTF transfer

Artwork is printed onto a film, then transferred with heat. It handles photographic detail and full colour with no screen setup.

  • Best on: busy back prints, limited runs, artwork-led streetwear
  • No colour limit, no plate cost
  • Hand-feel: slightly firmer than screen print, softer than silicone

How we choose

Send the artwork and the garment. We confirm the method against the fabric composition and the placement, then quote it per artwork rather than publishing a blanket number, because minimum order, colour count and cost all move with the design.
